page by page

I recently purchased a Kindle.  I had been wanting an e-reader but wasn't sure which one to go with.  When Amazon announced the $139 Kindle I figured why the hell not and went for it.

It seems to be like a pretty cool little device and I just purchased my first book for it, Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro.  I was inspired to read the book after I saw the trailer for the movie.

I find that when I'm on a roll I'm addicted to reading. I finished the 3 Stieg Larsson books recently and although they were challenging to get into at times, I really enjoyed them. Then over the long weekend I read Margaret Atwood's Oryx and Crake. I couldn't put that one down and am looking forward to reading her follow up to it, The Year Of The Flood.  Oh, I've also just started the His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman (aka The Golden Compass books).  And I'm trying to finish Tell Me Where it Hurts: A Day of Humor, Healing and Hope in My Life as an Animal Surgeon by Dr. Nick Trout.   Ah, books - such an underrated form of entertainment in my opinion!

Anyone have any other suggestions of some good reading material?

Thanks for the tip on a couple of those books! I tried one of Larsson's "The girl who..." books and couldn't handle it. I find books translated from other languages often drive me batty (especially Russian).

Sounds like you're OK with apocalyptic novels? I just finished "The Passage" by Justin Cronin and it's basically an epic vampire novel that appears to be the first in what will likely be a series, but it's set in the future in an apocalyptic landscape. It's very long (probably too long) but had me hooked. And I know - vampires, again? But it was still pretty good.

You might also like "When you Reach Me."

Hi Erin!

Yes, the Larsson books were hard to handle - all those names and places started to just blur together for me.

I'm finding that I really like sci-fi and apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic novels these days which kinds feels "unlike" me. But hey, everyone changes right?

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll have to get them both out!

I am joining a book club with some girlfriends! We have our first meeting this Saturday, so I will have some good ideas after that! I'm hoping someone will be able to help me broaden my literary horizons , as well.

I'm nearly done with the third Stieg Larsson...and loving it. I really enjoyed the first and second as well. Not sure what I will read after that. I've got a Jane Green novel for the flight home... she's light and easy, nice stories.

Can't wait to see you!
